Northern Light Media publishes Alaskan History Magazine and books by Helen Hegener about the history of Alaska and the Yukon Territory, from the earliest explorations by the hardy explorers and intrepid pioneers, to the first sled dog races, building the Alaska Railroad, and establishing roadhouses across the northernmost frontier. The original website is now a blog linked to this books site, and you can access it at the blue link above.
Northern Light Media books are well-researched and thoroughly documented accounts of the history of the Great Land, relying on original sources whenever possible. Northern Light Media also publishes classic and hard-to-find books on northland history, some long out of print.
Alaskan author Helen Hegener has given talks and slideshows at the Alaska State Fair, the Palmer Historical Society’s popular History Nights, the University of Alaska’s continuing education program, and for venues as diverse as Fireside Books in Palmer, Jitters Coffeehouse in Eagle River, and the Talkeetna Roadhouse. Programs about her books have been featured on radio and television, and she has contributed articles for Alaska Magazine, Last Frontier Magazine, Alaska Dispatch, Mushing Magazine, The Frontiersman, and many others.
